Attorney General Emeritus Frank Kelley Endorses Steve Bieda for Macomb County Clerk and Register of Deeds
Longest-Serving Attorney General in U.S. History Says Bieda Has Earned Our Trust and Will Stand Up for Seniors and Veterans
WARREN, MI — Frank J. Kelley, the longest-serving Attorney General in U.S. history, today endorsed State Sen. Steve Bieda (D-Warren) in his campaign for Macomb County Clerk and Register of Deeds.
Kelley served as Michigan’s Attorney General for 37 years from 1961 to 1999 and remains a leading voice in the Democratic Party. He is a nationally recognized champion of environmental and consumer issues and took on utilities and insurance companies to protect Michiganders from rate increases. President Bill Clinton praised Kelley as a leader in fighting the tobacco companies, which resulted in the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement that awarded Michigan and other states millions to compensate them for costs incurred from tobacco-related illnesses.
“Steve Bieda is a public servant who has earned our trust. He understands the need for high ethical standards for elected officials and has led by example. We can count on Steve to fight to protect seniors and veterans,” said former Attorney General Frank J. Kelley.
Bieda was named MIRS’ 2017 “Michigan Democrat of the Year.” He has been a leader on holding politicians to high ethical standards, fighting foreclosures, and protecting and strengthening the right to vote.
“Frank Kelley has been an incredible mentor to me as both an attorney and a public servant. He has been one of the strongest champions for consumers and seniors Michigan has ever had. As Macomb County Clerk and Register of Deeds, I will follow Frank Kelley’s example and make sure that veterans and families facing foreclosure are able to stay in their homes,” said State Senator Steve Bieda (D-Warren).
In his more than 13 years serving in the Michigan House and Senate, Bieda has been a leader on holding politicians to high ethical standards, fighting foreclosures, and protecting and strengthening the right to vote. Bieda’s campaign for Macomb County Clerk and Register of Deeds has already been endorsed by more than 30 local leaders.
Bieda currently represents the 9th State Senate District that includes the communities of Center Line, Eastpointe, Fraser, Roseville, Warren, and a portion of Clinton Township, and has been a State Senator since 2011. From 2003 to 2008, Bieda served as State Representative for the 25th State House District, representing Warren and Sterling Heights.
