Bieda Has Been a Strong Ally of Police and Public Safety for Decades

WARREN, MI — State Senator Steve Bieda (D-Warren) today received the endorsement of the Police Officers Association of Michigan (POAM) in his race for Macomb County Clerk/Register of Deeds.

In his more than 13 years serving in the Michigan Michigan House and Senate, Bieda has continually fought for increased public safety funding, against cuts to police officers’ earned pensions, and to repeal Michigan’s 2012 ‘Right to Work’ law. Most recently, Bieda prominently spoke out against efforts to add police and firefighters to those covered by the ‘Right to Work’ law.

“Police officers lay their lives on the line for us every single day. I’ve been proud to stand up for them in the Michigan Legislature, whether I’m championing more public safety dollars for local cities and townships or fighting attempts to cut the retirement police officers have earned keeping us safe. I’m honored to have their support in my campaign for Macomb County Clerk and Register of Deeds,” said State Sen. Steve Bieda (D-Warren).

Bieda was named MIRS’ 2017 “Michigan Democrat of the Year.” He has been a leader on holding politicians to high ethical standards, fighting foreclosures, and protecting and strengthening the right to vote.

Bieda currently represents the 9th State Senate District that includes the communities of Center Line, Eastpointe, Fraser, Roseville, Warren, and a portion of Clinton Township, and has been a State Senator since 2011. From 2003 to 2008, Bieda served as State Representative for the 25th State House District, representing Warren and Sterling Heights.
